Alumni Report #1

This will be a weekly feature to take a look at how some former Mat-su Miners are performing in professional baseball.


Owen Dew (2009)-Is currently 1-3 with 4.58 ERA in 6 appearances with the Midwest League Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians Low A). His last outing came on May 2nd where he recored 4 scoreless innings against the Lansing Lugnuts. Dew Struck out 4 and only walked 1.

Steve Domecus (2008)-the former Virginia Tech catcher is currently playing for the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers Low A) in the Midwest League. Domecus is hitting .350 with 2 home runs and 6 runs driven in, in 12 games. Steve went 3 for 4 with a run and a run driven in against Lansing on April 27th.

Garret Richards (2008)-Richards has ascended quickly in the Angels system. Richards has jumped 3 levels in 2 seasons, starting this year at Double A Arkansas playing for former Mat-su Miners Manager Bill Mosiello. Richards currently 2-0 with 3.91 ERA in 4 starts. Texas League Opponents are hitting just .244 off of the former Oklahoma Sooner.



Kyle Jensen (2008)-Jensen starting the season off on a tear for the Jupiter Hammerheads (Florida Marlins High A). Kyle is tied for first in pitcher friendly Florida State League with 7 home runs. Jensen is also 3rd in the league in batting average at a .378 clip. The St Mary alumnus has driven in 26 runs this season in 26 games.



Max Peterson (2008) -The former San Jose State Spartan is off to a slow start this season with a 1-1 record and 9.00 ERA in relief for the Stockton Ports (Oakland A's High A) In the California League.

Jason Erickson (2008)-Erickson the former Washington Huskies hurler is currently pitching for the Bradenton Marauders (Pittsburgh Pirates High A) of the Florida State League. Erickson has appeared in 6 games for Bradenton going 1-0 with a save and has a 4.80 ERA.


Jermey Erben (2008)-Erben is 0-1 with 2 saves and a 4.70 ERA in 7 appearances. Erben recorded his last save on April 29th against Lake County going 2 innings and striking out 4.




Clayton Elhert (2009) -Ehlert has become one of the premier closers in the Midwest League pitching for the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians Low A). Ehlert is third in the league with 7 saves. He is 0-1 this season with a minuscule 0.87 ERA in 7 appearances. Midwest League opponents are hitting just .167 of the former Texas A&M Aggie.



In a few days on our second installment of the Alumni Report we will take a look at how the classes of 2007 and 2006 are fairing in the professional ranks.
